IRGS Projects

In keeping with its charter responsibilities and objectives, the Indian River Genealogical Society, Inc., under the auspices of its Library Committee, conducts projects to protect and preserve the Society's scrap book, member's files and historical records pertinent to Indian River County, Florida, USA.

Cemeteries of Indian River County - COMPLETED

Post Card Book - COMPLETED

The IRGS is publishing a book through Arcadia Publishing, now in its fourth printing! It is a local history illustrated through the use of captioned post cards, drawn from the collections held in the Archive Center of the IRC Main Library, and from post cards in the private collection of Bruce Smith, on loan for this project.

Church Records of Indian River County - partially complete, leader needed!

The Church Records project goal is to get as many individual names connected with historical pre-1930 Indian River County churches as possible. For that to occur we need folks to approach various churches and request their cooperation in digging into their old membership rolls, especially the charter members so these names can be added to a data base created with the cooperation of the Indian River County Library. The names are published monthly in our newsletter and from there picked up by PERSI which makes the names, dates and church affiliation, city, county and state available to researchers anywhere in the world. Our cut off for dates is the same as the census, 1930 and back only. Over 40 churches have been identified thus far and about half of those have been approached. A chairperson is needed to spearhead the project, which has been underway for about two years now and has published hundreds of names and churches to date
